These two gorgeous examples of Rough diamonds from the Ellendale mine are great examples of the characteristics of its production:


The larger of the two is a Rhombic Dodecahedron and is fairly typical of the Ellendale production.
The smaller stone, although appearing triangular, isn’t a Maccle but simply a squashed dodecahedron.


The Ellendale production is made up of a high percentage of fancy yellow diamonds and supplies approximately 50% of the world’s supply of this category.
The structure of the stones is superb with very little twisting of the internal grain and many of the stones provide high yields in manufacturing.
The structure of the stones, coupled with the rarity of the colour in the production, results in a high average price for the rough. It is currently the second highest average price per carat for a ‘hard rock’ mine anywhere in the world.
